Student life

Not only do Prague history, sights, and old narrow streets attract foreigners, but its universities are also of great importance. More than 120 thousand students, 20% of whom are foreigners, study in Prague, making it one of the Czech Republic’s top university cities! While Prague is not just about historical sights, university life is not just about constantly going through textbooks and cramming for exams. For many, one of the most important and enticing aspects of studies is the “student life” itself: friendly gatherings in cafés or pubs, parties and various events! Are you a student from abroad about to start your freshman year in October? Or maybe you’ve already been studying for some time and want to spice up your studies a bit? In this article, we want to present you a couple of Prague students’ favourite places, where, apart from going to the university, you can spend the so-called “best years of your life”!

Libraries and study rooms

Let’s start slowly – with libraries and study rooms where the majority of students spend their time studying during the exam period.

National Library of Technology (Národní technická knihovna – NTK)

The NTK is part of the Czech Technical University (CTU) campus in Dejvice. Its spacious modern buildings, non-stop study rooms, café, and rooftop terraces attract students from various fields. The library offers team rooms as well as individual study rooms, a quiet area for studying in complete silence, and a night study room for those who prefer studying at night.
Admission is free, but a membership is required. To register, you need to have a valid ID, a chip card that contains your name and picture (such as an ISIC card) and the means to pay an annual 100 CZK fee. Foreigners also need to provide proof of address in the Czech Republic to be able to borrow books. You can find more information and the registration form itself by visiting their website.
